My attempt to document 40 sunrises in Eastern Cincinnati. Spring 2011.

Sunrise Calendar

I’m keeping track of the actual Sunrise times by using the Sunset Sunrise Calendar.  This web based calendar is useful because you can use exact longitude and latitude coordinates to get exact times.  You can also get information on astronomical twilight, nautical twilight, civil twilight, day length, moon phase, and solar noon.  The coordinates for Ault Park, according to a Geocache found at the park, is N 39° 08.029 W 084° 24.599, or N 39.133817° W084.409983°.  Plugging this into the sunset sunrise calendar gets us the following calendars (printable format, full detail):

April 2011

May 2011

June 2011

July 2011

August 2011

September 2011

October 2011

November 2011

December 2011

January 2012

February 2012

There are also some interesting dates on which the “moon-rise” coincides with the “sunrise”.  This happens about once a month it seems (because the moonrise rotates through an entire 24-hours period throughout the 28 day cycle).  It’ll be worth seeing if it will be possible to see the two events in the same area in the sky.

Of course, you can always just google “sunrise” and get an estimated sunrise time for wherever Google thinks you are.

  2. Hi. I am Darwin Elliott and I work for swapalease.com here in Cincinnati. I really like your photo of the skyline which includes the newest building with the tiara.

Would you allow me to use this on a webpage.

The webpage will be josephauto.com if you want to see get a feel for how it will be used.

Please let me know soon or I am going to try to duplicate your shot.
